Many people search for a long-lasting, healthy relationship. On the search to find that relationship, it is possible to get involved with someone with whom you argue more than you'd like to. Screaming, shouting and calling names are all part of an unhealthy relationship, but these behaviors can be changed and your relationship can be repaired if you work hard and are dedicated to seeing positive results.
Instructions
- 1
Communicate with your partner. Be open and honest about the things that you need him to change. Likewise, be accepting of the things that she needs for you to change.
2Attend couples' therapy together. A therapist acts as a neutral third party who can help you to determine what needs to be resolved in the relationship. Attending individual therapy is also helpful to help you each individually work on your own problems that contribute to the unhealthy relationship.
3Spend more time together enjoying one another's company. Go on dates, develop similar interests and hobbies and make an effort not to argue while doing these things together.
4Spend time apart regularly and use the time to calmly think about your relationship. Being apart will help you to look at the relationship clearly and solve problems without jumping into harsh arguments. It can also make you look forward to being with your significant other and use that time to its utmost benefit.
5Respect yourself and your own needs and don't be afraid to ensure that your needs are met. If your partner is abusive, either physically or emotional, determine if it's worth staying in the relationship.
6Leave the relationship if your attempts to make it healthy fail. Many people stay in unhealthy relationship because they are afraid of being alone or because they have been together a long time, but remaining in an unhealthy relationship can be harmful to a person's self-esteem and personal life.
