The dating market is often a tough one. People search high and low for love, and sometimes this is in vain. Finding the right person could come quickly, or may take a lifetime to accomplish. When searching for a stranger to date, we often look for intriguing things about them. Differences and similarities that are new and exciting. This is not always the case when attempting to date a friend, especially one you have known a long time. You may already know each other's likes, dislikes and personal habits. This can reduce the excitement of mystery of the dating experience.
Secrets
When you start dating a person, he or she often knows little about you. Maybe you have a criminal record or a sordid past, and do not want that fact known right away by your potentially new girlfriend. A fresh start is always important when seeking someone new. If the person you are dating is a friend that has known you a long time, she often already knows your past secrets.
Familiarity
When we start dating someone, the mystery surrounding the other person is often very appealing. Finding out her favorite foods, movies, places to go, sports teams and other general preferences can be a romantic venture. It can take away from the intrigue of a new relationship if the other person is a friend that is already familiar with your everyday life habits and preferences.
Gossip and Jealousy
People often socialize in groups of friends. Everybody often talks about their relationships and jobs while they drink that cold beer with each other. There may be one or more in your group of friends that thinks about you in a romantic way. If you start dating one friend, it may make another jealous. They may gossip, try to steal you away or ultimately become obsessed with sabotaging your new dating relationship.
Overly Respectful
Intimacy is an exciting and romantic part of life. When we meet that new potential significant other, the need for intimacy is often one of the things on our mind. We hope he feels the same way and the new dating relationship will turn into a romantic adventure. If you are dating a long-time friend that you have never been romantic with, this may bring a form of over-respectfulness for the other person. You may have viewed them as a brother type for several years, and that can result in backing away from intimacy.
