Negotiating a win-win outcome with your partner is possible if you truly love them. After all, in many ways, their happiness should be yours, and sacrificing for their benefit should bring you satisfaction. Besides this, there are ways to give both of you what you need or desire from a tricky situation.

Have an open mind. This is the first and most basic step when it comes to negotiating a win-win outcome with your partner. Often in a situation where one is passionate about their side of an argument, it is easy to overlook the fact that the other person also has a perspective, thoughts and a heart. Keeping an open mind and deciding to take in how your partner feels is vital to negotiation.
2Listen. If one has an open mind, listening is the next step in understanding the partner's perspective. Listening leads to understanding, which leads to a softer heart and a willingness to compromise. Not only this, but simply hearing what your partner has to say will demonstrate more love than all the words in the world.
3Put yourself in your partner's shoes, with all of his or her life experiences, hold-ups and past pain. This will calm you down and focus your mind on what it truly means to love someone by stepping into their position. You may also unexpectedly have a clearer picture of why your partner desires what he does and, in turn, open yourself up to give it to him.
4Compromise. Nothing says you love someone quite as clearly as sacrificing for their sake. Not only this, but if you focus more on receiving love than on giving it, your relationship will not be nearly as deep or enduring as it could be. True satisfaction comes from this giving attitude, and if you are having a difficult time sacrificing something small or mundane for the other person, perhaps you should question how deep your devotion truly is.
5Explain your perspective. After you have kept an open mind, listened, put yourself in your partner's shoes and compromised, lay out what it is you feel like you need and why this is. If something is truly important to you, brings you joy and makes you who you are, you should not have to compromise this, and a partner who loves you will understand.
