How to Win Somebody Back

Break-ups are never easy. They happen to most people, however, and can come unexpectedly. If you still can't accept the break-up, you can try a few things to get your ex back. You are not in control of the situation and cannot predict the outcome. You can only be in charge of your own actions. Ironically, choosing to let go may be the best way to win back your ex.

Instructions

Give him or her space. This may seem counterintuitive, but it is necessary if you want to possibly win back your ex and demonstrate self-confidence. There is a reason your significant other ended the relationship; be respectful of the decision. By giving space, you open up the opportunity for the person to wonder what you are doing and possibly rethink the break-up.

Embrace your own life. You may not be feeling like there is much to embrace right now, which is normal. Remember that the emotions are temporary. This low point may present opportunity for you to try new things, such as make new friends, join a new activity, or read books you have put aside. It may not seem fun at first, but choosing to focus on opportunities you have now will prepare you for life without this person if that is the final outcome.

Maintain self-respect. This is a crucial step in not only recovering from this painful break-up, but being noticeable to your old lover. Though you feel vulnerable, believe in your value by maintaining self-respect. This entails not constantly calling your ex (or making any contact at all), taking the time you need to recover, and believing you are worthwhile. Your self-respect will be noticed, which may cause your ex to wonder what he or she let go.

Stay positive. Do over do it; if you need to mourn your loss, go ahead and do it. However, do not be so emotionally distraught that you lose sight of several important things: the fact that this relationship did not define you, the wonderful events that are in store for you, and that you are a beautiful person. Your positive attitude will draw others to you, and maybe even your ex, too.

Let go. When you determine it's time to let go of the one you love, be free from the pain and guilt of wondering what you did wrong. Letting go can mean taking a time of mourning, talking to caring friends to get a different perspective, or reading books that encourage healing and self-discovery. Whatever the case, once you have truly mastered letting go, you might find this is when your ex returns. You may or may not feel like taking him or her back at this point; whatever the case, maintain the self-respect you have developed during this painful period in life.
