How to Talk to a Boyfriend About Separating

When a relationship has gone stale, finding the courage to talk to your boyfriend about separating is the hardest part of a break up. If you aren't sure whether you want to separate, but you aren't happy, then you need to discuss your relationship with him to see where he stands. You may be able to solve whatever problem is ailing the relationship by addressing the issue; or a discussion could be all you need to be sure that you want to end the relationship.

Instructions

Pick a good time to talk to him. Right after work or immediately after he has been involved in a stressful situation isn't the best time. A sunny, casual Saturday afternoon is perfect.

Pick a place to do it. Take him for a walk in the park or talk to him during a meal at a restaurant that isn't overcrowded, as to avoid embarrassment if there is yelling. Avoid talking about it when he could be distracted, such as when you are driving in a car or at home with the TV on.

Start off by saying you want to talk about your relationship. Tell him about the things you aren't happy with. Give him a chance to respond.

Decide whether he is willing to make the necessary changes and whether you want to keep the relationship alive. If he gets defensive and angry, then you will likely want to end it right there. However, if you see in him the potential to change, then give the relationship another shot.

End the relationship if you have been unhappy for a while and continue to be unhappy even after talking about the relationship. Dragging things on will only make matters worse, so it is best to end relations.
