How to Deal With Seeing Your Ex-Boyfriend

While walking through the park you lay eyes on the man who broke your heart. Even if it's a casual situation where he may not see you, you have one of two choices. You can avoid him at all costs or you can approach him and start a conversation. The correct choice will depend on your emotional status and if you are ready to see your ex-boyfriend or not. Regardless if you want to say hi and be friends or not, it's always a potentially awkward situation.

Instructions

Use a joke to break the tension if you are ready to speak to him. Say hello and offer a handshake. If you are with friends, introduce them. Start small talk but keep it brief. Use questions like "What are you up to today?" or "How is work going?" Do yourself a favor and avoid asking about his relationship status if possible, even if you are curious. It will save you from having your feelings hurt if he's moved on.

Walk away after exchanging awkward eye contact or a small wave. Acknowledge him, but don't go out of your way to start a conversation. Acknowledging him shows you are acting in a mature nature, but do not wish to be friends.

Remind yourself why your relationship ended if the interaction does not go well. There is always a reason that things don't work out, and it's important to consider this if he is rude or doesn't care to speak with you. Realize your life is better without someone who does not respect you or treats you poorly.
