Creative & Romantic Ideas for Asking Someone to Prom

Make your prom more memorable by asking your date in a creative and romantic way that he or she will never forget. Tailor your request to his or her preferences. If you include cookies, candy or flowers, find out his or her favorites from friends beforehand and incorporate them into your request. If your date is outgoing and likes attention, plan your request in public; if he or she is more shy and reserved, use an idea that is private and intimate.

Balloons and flowers have been given to dates as signs of affection for decades. Take a creative twist on this traditional favorite by putting a message into the balloons before you fill them with air. Select eight balloons. On slips of paper write the words "Will" "You" "Go" "To" "Prom" "With" "Me?" and a final slip with your name and phone number. Roll up each slip and slide one inside each balloon. Fill the balloons and tie them together to a small vase with a single rose in it. Around the top of the vase, tie a note that reads "You're invited to a poppin' good time. Break all the balloons for details."

Invite your potential prom date to your next sporting event such as a soccer, football or baseball game for the team you play on. At half time, or when there is a break in play near the end of the game, put a white shirt on beneath your jersey that has a message printed on it in bold, black lettering that starts with the person's name and then says "Will you go to the prom with me?" On the back, print the words "Please say yes!" You can use iron-on felt letters or have the shirt screen printed. After the game, remove your jersey to reveal the shirt and walk to the stands with a huge bouquet of your date's favorite flowers. Silently hand your date the flowers, smile and turn around revealing the back of the shirt. This is a nice way to make a date feel appreciated in front of friends.

Invite your date out for dinner at a local Chinese restaurant. Beforehand, prepare a special fortune cookie with your message in it. Use tweezers to remove the existing message. Cut a slip of paper in the same dimensions as the original fortune and instead write "You will have an unforgettable time at the prom with me." On the other side write: "Your Lucky Numbers" and put your phone number. Use tweezers to insert the new message inside of the fortune cookie. Use food coloring to make a dot on the cookie. During the meal, excuse yourself to use the restroom. Go to the kitchen and let the waitstaff know what you are doing. Give them your fortune cookie and ask them to bring it out with another one after the meal. Make sure you select the fortune cookie without the food coloring dot.
