Many women feel uncomfortable approaching men. Traditional rules of dating suggest that women should allow men to make the first move, but times have changed. Women are independent, educated and make just as much money as men, if not more. If the traditional roles of women have changed, it stands to reason that the traditional dating rules can be thrown out the window, as well. Luckily, approaching a man is not as difficult as you might think.

Make eye contact and smile. Making eye contact will let him know that you are interested and not afraid to show it. Smiling will make you appear non-threatening and friendly. This small gesture of non-verbal communication sets the stage for your approach.
2Exude confidence. A man likes a woman who is sure of herself. When you approach him, make sure to stand tall, pull your shoulders back and walk confidently. He will notice you well before you get to his side of the room.
3Give him a compliment. Men like women who make them feel good about themselves. Compliment his outfit or the smell of his cologne. This will make him feel like a million bucks. He will want to continue the conversation.
4Ask him a question. This will get him to open up and talk. Men like to feel like they are needed; ask him to suggest a good gym, or for advice on your car. Even if he does not go to a gym, it will make him feel good that you think he does. He will immediately tell you about the local gym and his favorite class. Let him know that you value is knowledge and expertise.
5Ask to follow up. The easiest way to get his number is to ask to follow up with him on your conversation. Tell him you would love to keep in touch with him in case you have further questions about your car. This comes across as non-threatening and does not seem like a direct come-on. Approaching him in this manner will keep the ball in his court. When you call him about your car, if he is interested in more, he can ask to take you out to dinner or a movie.
