How to End a Relationship With a Guy

Breakups are hard---most of the time. Breakups can be done in a number of ways, the most honorable of course being in person. Where others see cowardly, others see convenient. Breaking up over the phone, text-message, instant message or an e-mail is one way to end your relationship with your boyfriend.

Instructions

Text him. Texting him "It's over," "I'm ending it because of ....," or a simple "I'm sorry but this isn't working" will get the job done. Time this text so that he is not at work or an important event when he receives it, unless you want to be remembered as the girl who broke up by text and ruined his big interview.

Call him. Call his house or cell phone and tell him you are not longer interested in being in a relationship with him.

E-mail him. An e-mail breakup, while usually considered cowardly, does have a plus side. E-mailing will allow you to gather your thoughts better than you would in person. Think of everything you want to tell him and put it into words. Using any emotions would be inappropriate (unless you are trying to be spiteful).

Choose a place for your breakup and invite him to it, whether it be your place, his place or on a neutral ground like a park. Choose your breakup scenario. Do you want to be nice? Mean? Do you want to tell him everything that went wrong, or would you rather not explain yourself? Decide how you want to go about your breakup.

Break the news. Breaking the news to him will likely be hard, especially if you have been together a long time and are now interested in someone else or are bored of his company. Tell him things are no longer working for you, and you do not want to be in this relationship anymore.

Be considerate. Remember that he has feelings, too, and even if you have only been in a relationship a short while, rejection still hurts. If you have already told him what is not working for you in the relationship, then there is no reason to continue with a long list of his faults.

Do not lie. If you do not want to be friends after your relationship has ended, do not say it just to be nice. If you like someone else, tell him. He will end up finding out one way or another, and it would be better coming from you so that he cannot say later that you lied to him.

Make your last arrangements. If you have previously lived together or have lent out your things, make your arrangements for a date to come and pick them up.
