How to Break up with your girlfriend

Neil Sedaka is such a genius. Breaking up is indeed, hard to do. Even when you get to the point of wanting to break up, often there are still feelings for your significant other. No matter how long or short a time the two of you have been together, leaving is typically never a simple task. The key is persistence. Unfortunately, breaking up is like a process, and you must remain committed and focused to see it through till the end.

Commit!!! Often when deciding to break up with your girlfriend, you will look back on those good times you shared, remember the positive, and let it cast a shadow of doubt on all that negative that brought you to this point. Yeah, that Valentine's card was sweet, but it wasn't so sweet when you walked in and saw her sitting on the couch with her ex! Once you make the decision to end the relationship, it is over, whether you actually voice your desires then or not. You have already emotionally removed yourself, so don't hesitate to make it official so you both can begin to move on.

Meet her somewhere public, like a park or mall foodcourt. When you're planning to break up with your girlfriend, do it in a public place, but don't ride there with her, as you're liable to be left there. Also, don't take her with you, as she may be liable to destroy your car on the way to drop her back off. Meeting in a public place allows you to somewhat control the initial explosion of emotion that is sure to ensue. It also gives you the security of knowing that you can leave at anytime should things get out of hand.

There's never going to be "the right words," so don't waste time trying to come up with them. There won't be a perfect way of how to break up with your girlfriend. Depending on how long the two of you were together and how deep your connection, she will probably cry, scream at you, say you were horrible in bed, and call you every name in the book and them some. She is trying to hurt you and your ego as much as she feels hurt by you. Once again, this is someone you cared and care for, but don't let this show of emotion cause you to waiver. Stay committed.

Be honest with her. Tell her the real reasons why you want to end the relationship. If you try to sugarcoat it, she's think the reasons are insignificant and thing you're even more of a jerk for leaving over something so petty. Of course she's going to think you a jerk anyway, so at least let it be for the right reasons.

In this process, she will probably not go quietly. She will call, text, email you, and then she may show up at your house. You have to ignore her. Your persistence must beat hers. Sure, you may have said "we're done," but until she accepts that too, can you really be "done?" No, you can't. She's going to need not-so-subtle nudging to join you at this conclusion and your absence and refusal to speak to her is just the push she may need.
