Jealous tendencies can strain your relationship. If you are too jealous and untrusting, your partner will become exasperated and lose patience with constantly placating you. This can either make the relationship unhappy or end it entirely, so if you don't want this to happen you should focus on becoming less jealous. The way to do this is to do things that make you more secure; the more secure you are, the less jealous you will be, and the happier your relationship will make you.
Instructions
- 1
Stop comparing yourself to other people. You should think about yourself in terms of yourself; rather than "I'm better than him at basketball, but worse than him," you should think "I'm very good at basketball, and I enjoy playing it." There are billions of people on the planet, and there will always be someone better than you at some skills and worse than you at others. If you avoid comparing yourself to others and embrace yourself for who you are, you will feel less jealous.
2Focus on your strengths by improving them. Are you strong? Then start lifting weights. Are you a good writer? Join a creative writing group. If you improve on your strengths, your self-esteem will be strengthened, which will make you less jealous.
3Take a moment to actually assess a situation. If you see a man talking to your girlfriend and you become jealous of him, take a second to think about how you feel and why you feel that way. Jealousy is a fundamentally illogical emotion, so if you apply logic to it it will start to dissipate.
4Write your feelings down. This will not only get them off your chest, but also highlight how absurd they are, which will apply more logic to your jealousy and make it less powerful.
