How to Date a Shy Guy

You've got your eye on a guy, but he's so shy it makes you wonder if you'll be able to carry on a conversation, let alone go on a date. Use these ideas to not only draw him out of his shell, but also get to know him well enough to have a fun, comfortable and fulfilling relationship.

Instructions

Spend time as friends with your shy guy without pressuring him about dating. Talk to him when you're alone rather than surrounded by your friends, since a large group of girls may intimidate him.

Bring up topics of conversation and let him participate at his own pace. Try not to force him to open up to you too soon. Discuss basic things like school, favorite bands, movies, books or hobbies. Do most of the talking, but throw in a few open-ended questions that will allow him to talk if he's comfortable.

Tell him about yourself, showing him that you can be trusted since you're divulging a few of your secrets. If he does open up and get a little more personal, keep what he tells you a secret instead of discussing it with your friends. If you violate his trust, he may revert to being shy with you.

Arrange a few quiet dates if he does get up the nerve to ask you out (or if he says "yes" when you ask him out). Going to a movie where you won't have to talk as much will help him ease into the relationship as opposed to a long, silent dinner date.

Introduce him to your friends and family members slowly, starting with the quieter ones who won't intimidate him. If you've got a loud uncle that jokingly insults your boyfriends, for example, save that introduction until after your guy is more comfortable in your relationship.
