How to Stop One's Partner From Whining

Listening to constant whining is annoying and tiresome. It's one thing to deal with a whiny child, but dealing with a whiny or complaining partner is irksome. If your significant other adopts this bad habit, it may be difficult to maintain your patience. Yet, there are several ways to deal with a whiny adult. Sometimes, you have to treat them like a child.

Instructions

Draw attention to the whining. Your partner may not realize that he she has a habit of whining. Bring it to his attention. Once you've openly acknowledged the behavior, call attention to each future whiny incident.

Ignore the whining. She may have been a whiny child who used the behavior to manipulate others. Your partner likely recognizes the annoying habit, and purposely complains to sway your actions.

Mimic the whining. If you want to get under your partner's skin, and hopefully stop the complaining, whine back. Playfully imitate his complaints in a whiny voice. This helps your partner grasp the severity of the problem.

Discuss the problem like adults. Getting mad does not solve the problem. In fact, it may intensify the whining. Sit your partner down and ask her to express her feelings. Pinpoint the cause, and deal with the issues.

Make a deal with your partner. The same way you're bothered with your partner's whininess, he is probably bothered by one of your habits. Strike a deal and agree to work on your annoying habits.
