How to Save Any Lingering Feelings of an Old Relationship

Riding a roller coaster relationship is a challenge. You break up then make up and then break up again. Part of the reason you two come back to give it another go is because you both have feelings that won't seem to quit. If your relationship has ended but you have feelings lingering, you might want to give it one more round.

Agree to chat occasionally. If you two can start communicating on a regular basis it will give you both a chance to test the waters to see if any sparks remain. Try to avoid discussing the relationship at first. Give yourselves time to get adjusted to speaking again before exploring the possibilities.

Hang out with each other. Going out on a date and spending leisure time doing something fun can be two completely separate activities. Use the art of hanging out as friends as a conduit to what could possibly lead to more. Go bowling, catch a funny movie or go run in the park together. Do some type of laid back activity that will let you both get adjusted to seeing each other.

Introduce the elephant in the room. The expression "elephant in the room" refers to some obvious problem that everybody is ignoring and not mentioning. After you've given it a few meetings and chat sessions, you and your ex need to talk about the relationship. Discuss how you both feel, your current situations --- like if you're both available --- and if it's worth taking things to the next level slowly.

Tell your ex how you really feel. If after quality time and dishing about the relationship you feel you want more togetherness, say so. Consider this as your last shot at being a couple again, so ask if you two can start dating again. Be aware that you may get rejected.

Handle the decision with care. If you two decide to start dating again, proceed with caution keeping an open line of communication between the you so the same problems from the past do not resurface. If you are rejected or if you two decide that taking another stab at it is not in your best interest, agree to be friends or at least cordial and move on.
