Fun Icebreaker Games to Play on a Date

Many people who go out with someone new for the first time get pre-date jitters. They clam up because they do not know what to expect. Playing an icebreaker game on your date is an effective way to make both parties feel comfortable around one another, and ease some of the pressure. This is also a good way to avoid awkward silences.

Learn about the things that your date prefers by playing One or the Other. This game allows you to ask a question, such as "Half empty, or half full," and your date has to respond instantly to confess his preference. You can use questions from a wide scope of topics, from animals to colors to vacation destinations to sports activities. By hearing the answers from your date you learn what types of things he likes, dislikes and prefers.

The "Most" Game involves you and your date sharing "most" stories, such as "most embarrassing moment," "most bizarre food you've ever eaten," "most beautiful place you've ever been to" and "most daring thing you've ever done." Sharing embarrassing moments and information about the things you have done in your life can spark up conversation and lead into stories that the two of you share comfortably.

Would You Ever is an icebreaker game that allows you to come up with wild hypothetical situations that you ask to your date if he would ever do something. For example, "would you ever bungee jump?" or "would you ever eat a rattlesnake?" Take turns going back and forth with your questions. You can learn a lot about your date based on his answers.

In the Story Time Game, you start off with one sentence, such as "Once upon a time, there lived an elephant." Then, your date has to complete the next sentence. You complete the third sentence, and so on. This game gives the two of you a chance to be creative and show off your sense of humor.

To play 3 Truths and a Lie, you need a piece of paper and a writing utensil. The person who goes first writes down 3 things about himself that are true, and adds in one lie. The other person has to review the list and decide which of the items are true and which one is the lie. Then, swap turns. This icebreaker works best when the truths listed on the paper are things that could seem like a lie, to make the game more challenging for the guesser. For some of the truths, list famous people you have met, or amazing places you have traveled to.
