How to Find an Old Lover

Its perfectly natural to remember and wonder about a past love interest. Once you love someone, a part of them usually stays with you after you have gone separate ways, especially when they were a first love. For some people, the emotional connection to an old flame remains strong and never truly goes away, often leaving them to regret the break-up and wonder what might have been. If you are searching for a former love, there are several ways you can find them.

Contacting an old lover through friends is the best way to ensure success. If you and your former flame shared mutual friends, odds are you probably still do. Make a list of mutual friends. Let your friends know you are interested in getting back in touch with this person. Ask general questions such as how they are doing and if they still live in town.

If a mutual friend agrees to provide this information, call or write a letter to your old flame. A letter is the better option since it wont put the person on the spot as a phone call might. By receiving a letter, the person will be able to process their feelings and determine if they want to make contact with you. It will also allow them to prepare if they do reach out. Keep your letter concise without getting sentimental or overly reflective. Simply state that you were thinking about them and wanted to reach out and say hello. Let them know that there is no pressure on their behalf.

If your mutual friend is uncomfortable providing contact information, ask them to pass along a message. Whatever you do, dont gush to friends about still being in love with your old flame and hoping for a second chance. It will likely reduce your chances of making contact.

Check social networking sites such as Facebook.com, Myspace.com and MyLife.com to search for your old love interest. Registration is required, so if you dont already have accounts in place, you will need to register. Log in with your user name and password to begin the search.

Locate the section of the site where you can search for a person by typing in their name. Be sure to spell the name correctly. Some sites will let you narrow your search by ZIP code or city and state.

Browse the list of names to find the person you are looking for. Browse their page to learn about their current life. Focus on specifics such as whether they are in a relationship, married or have kids. This information may alter your decision on whether to continue your pursuit.

If youve decided to make contact, follow the instructions on the site. Most sites will have a Send Message option. Choose this option and compose your message. Keep it short and simple.

Find an online search engine such as Pipl.com.

Enter the persons first name, last name and last known city and state. Click the search button.

Review the information provided to find the person you are seeking, and decide whether to contact them via phone, email or postal mail.
