You don't want to embarrass her or yourself. You don't want other people's opinions, particularly her friends' opinions, influencing her decision. Never ask her out in front of other people.

If you ask her out in person, be serious. Don't give her the wrong impression that you are joking. If she says "yes", don't be too excited. Be cool. Give her a sweet smile. If she said "no", don't feel humiliated or too gloomy. It is normal. There are many reasons why she would say no, or perhaps there is no reason at all. She may change her mind later.
