In the heat of an argument, you may feel that angry words aren't a big deal. Know that what you think was a small insult thrown at the other person may come across as a bolder to the recipient. Learn how to repair the effects of angry words.

Instructions

    1

Let the other person steam. Don't try to backtrack when that person is still angry. They won't think that you're sincere if you try to repair negative effects right at that moment. Wait for things to calm down before taking the next step in repairing the angry words effects.

    2

Work to repair the effects of your angry words. Approach the person and apologize. Let them know what you really feel, and that what you expressed back then was intended to hit them hard. Let them know that what you said then didn't reflect how you truly see things. Let them know that your angry words resulted from you not thinking straight.

    3

Allow them fume at you, let them "lecture" you. While they're doing this, let them know that you understand their position, and that you'd feel the same way if you were in their shoes. Make sure that you don't come across as patronizing them.

    4

Repair the effects of your angry words with the view of permanently resolving this problem. Attend a stress management class to learn about stress and anger signs. Do this so that you don't blow up. If you consistently hurt someone with angry words, consider attending some kind of anger management course.

    5

Strive to find ways to express yourself without getting negative. If you have to constantly repair the effects of your angry words, you end up sounding less sincere with each attempt. At some point, you lose credibility and come across as a phony.
