How to Stop a Break Up From Happening

In the beginning of your relationship you felt as though you had met the perfect person. You both wanted the same things out of life, had similar goals and talked easily about the future. However, as time wore on and life changed, you and your partner fell out of synchronicity. Your relationship feels doomed because the person you are with does not seem like the person you first met. While your situation may feel hopeless, fixing a relationship is not impossible. In order to right your wronged relationship, you and your partner must be willing to continue the relationship as well as work on problems both individually and as a couple.

Instructions

    1

Delve deeper into the situation. Ask yourself why you really believe your relationship is headed for a breakup. Often, there is not one exact reason for disharmony in a relationship. Write down the reasons why you believe that your relationship is not going to last. Do not place all of the blame on your partner. Look at the list and determine what you do that causes disharmony in the relationship. Make another list of the problems that you personally must work on.

    2

Get help. Not all relationship problems go away with discussion between partners. At times, a mediator is needed to help couples gain a different perspective into their relationship and to offer solutions that the couple may not have thought of. Couples therapy is also a healthy option for couples that want to learn other effective forms of communication with their partner in order to prevent future fights or problems. Buy a relationship help book. Books offer vital information on proper communication between partners as well as ideas on spotting potential problems within a relationship.

    3

Agree to disagree and compromise. You may never see eye to eye with your partner on everything. Relationships require you to compromise on certain subjects. Acknowledging you and your partner's feelings about a subject allows you to come up with a compromise that satisfies both of you.
