How to Handle a Break Up With a Live-In Boyfriend

Handling a breakup with a live-in boyfriend can be most challenging when the man is still in the same home. The recovery process will likely be longer than in a regular breakup because you will need to give one of you time to move out. Constantly seeing each other makes both of you feel sad, awkward and the depression can be overbearing. Take the time to consider your options when handling a breakup with a live-in boyfriend.

Sleep in different areas of the home immediately. Move out as soon as possible or wait for him to move out. The more you see each other, the more painful the breakup will be.

Visit positive people in your life such as friends and family for support. Many people lock themselves inside and avoid other people -- this strategy could make you feel lonely and depressed and is definitely not healthy if you are still living together.

Give yourself time to grieve. You have experienced a loss and need to find ways to fill the void. For example, if you used to play tennis with your ex-boyfriend, find a new tennis partner.

Seek medical advice if you become severely depressed. Some depression is normal, but if the depression doesn't subside after a few days, you should find support. Serious thoughts of not being able to function without the person qualifies as severe depression.
