How to Get Rid of a Jealous Boyfriend

Most relationships include a measure of jealousy every now and then, whether it is over a partner's attractive new coworker or over his close lifelong female pal. Extreme jealousy can be very harmful and suffocating. Tact is key to breaking up with dignity and peace.

Stand your ground. If your boyfriend has a jealous nature, it can be an indication that he is deeply infatuated with you. As a result, it may be very difficult for him to accept the fact that you are leaving him. However, it is important for your mental health and happiness that you under no circumstances allow him to pressure you into getting back with him. If his jealousy is upsetting you, it is very unlikely that he will change, especially not soon. Be firm and express to him that your decision is final and permanent.

Be as brief as possible when breaking up with your jealous boyfriend. Excess talk can just be confusing. Get quickly to your point. The situation is not an easy one for either of you, so talking more can probably just make it even more painful.

Select an appropriate meeting spot. If your boyfriend displays "normal" jealous behavior, agree to meet him in a neutral area, such as a cafe or park. Try to sit in a private corner in case either of you begins to feel emotional or vulnerable. Meeting him face-to-face can drive home the permanence of your decision. He might not take you as seriously if you do it over the phone or over by e-mail or instant messaging.

Be careful. Some men can be very dangerous when it comes to jealous and possessive behaviors. If you are afraid of your boyfriend and want to get rid of him permanently, alert your most trusted friends and family members of the situation. Either call him to break up with him or phase him out gradually --- do not try to meet up with him in person. Consider finding a place to stay for a while where he will not be able to find you, such as the home of a friend. If he engages in stalking, persistent or possible harmful behaviors, alert the police and ponder possibly getting a restraining order on him (for additional protection and peace of mind).
