If you look up the meaning of an independent woman, you will find several definitions, including a woman who has financial freedom and does not rely on the support of others to maintain her lifestyle. True independence also includes freedom of emotional restraints. This means not allowing a person to control how you feel or react. Being independent shows that you are self-assured and confident in who you are and what you believe.
Financial
As an independent woman, you are able to take care of yourself financially. You may have a mortgage but you are able to pay your mortgage without feeling financially strapped. Being independent doesn't necessarily mean you have top-of-the-line luxury items. You may have lower-end material items but you are able to afford these things. Being independent means living comfortably within your means. Even if you fall behind in bills due to unforeseen circumstances and have to borrow money, as an independent woman, you will work diligently to get back onto your feet instead of relying on financial handouts to make monthly payments.
Emotional
Forget what the trends are, you wear what you want, when you want and how you want. Independent women may be into trends, too, however, it's what you want to do as opposed to what you do because it's popular or accepted. Being emotionally strong may present challenges, especially when it comes to love and the opposite sex. In this case, independence doesn't mean being hard as a rock and showing no emotion. Being independent is accepting emotional situations --- such as the loss of a relationship --- grieving and then moving on. Independence means making mistakes and being able to learn from them and move forward.
Confidence
This encompasses all areas of confidence, including physical and emotional. To do this, you need to have faith in yourself. It's easier to do this when you surround yourself with people with the same demeanor. As an independent woman, you don't mind that people have a different opinion than yours, however, you want them to understand that your opinion is just as valid. Physically speaking, you are free from worrying about how big your thighs are or that you have a scar on your face. If there's something you're dissatisfied with on your body, you work to the best of your ability to improve it.
Considerations
You may think you're independent, but the truth is, being completely independent is like being perfect --- and no one is perfect. Being independent is something a woman should strive toward. Don't worry if you make mistakes along the way. This is part of the process. True independence is learning from those mishaps and adjusting the process that leads to success.
