Regardless of your best intentions otherwise, there very well may be times when you hurt the one you love. A sincere apology is the first step toward making amends for your mistake. This will include your regret for the wrong-doing or misunderstanding, taking responsibility for your actions and suggestions to remedy the situation. Though these steps are straightforward, carrying through with them may not be easy. Resist the urge to make excuses and start by saying, "I'm sorry."

Meet with your boyfriend face-to-face. It may be easier to write a note or call, but by having this discussion in person he can see how contrite you are about whatever it was that went wrong. Leave plenty of time for any conversation to follow.
2Say you are sorry and state the offense so he knows you understand what went wrong. Use this opportunity to acknowledge his feelings so he knows you recognize the fallout of your behavior.
3Offer an explanation, but not an excuse. Do not try to justify what you did or shift the blame elsewhere. If you deflect toward your boyfriend's behavior, you squander an opportunity to earn your boyfriend's respect by handling the situation with true regret for your mistake.
4Show remorse. If you trivialize the issue, it trivializes your apology. Let your boyfriend know you're not just saying you're sorry, you really mean it. That starts by really meaning it.
5Offer to make up for the mistake. This shows you go beyond feeling and saying sorry to doing the hard work of making reparations. Ask him how you can earn his trust again or how you can make things right.
