How to Date with a Difference

Dating is a complex and delicate labyrinth for many people. Meeting all sorts of different people under countless sets of conditions can make the dating game even more confusing. Daters are constantly asking themselves: "Is this person right for me?" or "How can I really know if we are good together?" Whether you are new to dating, re-entering the dating scene or count yourself as a serial dater, there are ways to improve your game. Dating with a difference means axing old habits and taking control of your romantic world.

Instructions

Be bold. Call the person two or three days after meeting them and getting their phone number. Make the call short and sweet. Be polite and direct. Ask the person out. Have an idea of what you would like to do with them and when -- prior to the call. Having an agenda -- albeit flexible -- beforehand gives the other person the impression that you are thoughtful and serious. Get their response and end the conversation shortly after. Do not rush to call right away or hang on the phone too long once you begin talking. Doing so may give off the impression you are desperate or too intense -- even though neither may be true.

Present calm and confidence on your date. Avoid working for anticipated results -- sex or an agreement to an exclusive dating commitment, for example. Stay in the moment. Show your sense of humor. Listen to what your date says and ask real questions in response. Talk about your interests and passions but do not be too forward. Entice your date with a little mystery to see if they ask you questions, too. Remember that you are desirable and they are on the date with you for that reason.

Take your time in courting the other person. End the first date -- if it is going well -- by asking the person out for a second. Wait a day or two before calling again. Avoid the temptation to send flowers, candies or personal communications so you do not appear possessive. Follow the rule: one step forward, two steps back now that you are dating with a difference. Plan an enjoyable second date that is interactive and different -- a batting cage or miniature golf, for example -- from the first. Continue on this path for subsequent dates. Trust your instincts and do not rush getting physical. Showing poise and reservation will generate desire from your date when the time is right.
