How to Be Independant After a Relationship

What do you do when your relationship with your significant other has just ended abruptly, and that person was practically your entire life? Hopefully you'll find this to be useful in solving this problem.

Soon after a breakup, you're bombarded with a multitude of feelings, such as regret, grief, shock, anger, and possible depression. When you depend on somebody else too much for your happiness, you've set yourself up for having your heart - and happiness shattered. Sometimes you'll find that everything you think of or do, no matter what it may be, will somehow lead you back to the relationship and how it ended. Instead of blaming yourself and grieving over the loss, try to look at the relationship as a learning experience. Think of everything you did as one step further to finding Mr. or Ms. Right. Thinking in a constructive manner rather than destructive is very helpful for getting over your breakup.

People may tell you that "It wasn't meant to be", and a common reaction to that is something along the lines of "Yes it was!" . This may lead to feeling regretful, guilty, or even fully responsible for whatever went wrong. Instead of this, do something that makes you feel good about yourself and helps you take your mind off the breakup. For the days, weeks, even months that follow, you may have intense negative feelings. Engaging in positive activity is a great way to get your mind off of it all.

If you depended on a relationship for your happiness, you may find that your friends also came out of it, who you may have also lost. Chances are good that you have other friends in your life. Try reconnecting with them and doing things you enjoy with them. You'll soon realize that you had them there all along.

Leave yourself open to new opportunities. You know how it goes - when one door closes, another opens. Don't close yourself off to new people or situations. You may find just the person to help you get through this.
