How to Grow Communication With Your Boyfriend

Communication is one of the most important aspects of a relationship. If you want yours to last for a long time and make you and your boyfriend feel happy and fulfilled, work on improving communication. If both of you are open and honest with each other and not afraid to share your feelings, you are equipped to support each other and address problems before they become serious.

Talk to your boyfriend honestly. Work on eliminating inhibitions about what topics you can discuss with him. If you are open about your feelings and needs and do not hold information back, he is more likely to do the same.

Practice communication skills with your boyfriend. Some individuals have a difficult time expressing their feelings and needs in words; however, the more your boyfriend practices, the better he will become at communicating. Each time you encounter an emotionally challenging situation, take the time to talk about how each one of you feels, even if this is difficult.

Be patient with your boyfriend as he learns to communicate. Getting angry at his inability to express himself will only make him keep his feelings to himself even more. Instead, gently coax him to share his thoughts with you by asking him questions in a non-accusatory manner and listen attentively.

Resolve conflicts quickly as you practice your communicating skills. If you and your boyfriend get in a fight, take some time alone to calm down. Then resolve the issue promptly by apologizing for what you have done wrong and explaining what bothered you in an objective tone without becoming emotional or placing blame.
