How to Love the Brokenhearted

Mending a broken heart is no easy task. When you're in a relationship and you give so much of yourself, it can be hard to expose yourself so openly again to someone else. However, part of the joy of finding the right person to love is the process of meeting and bonding with her. If you've found someone who has a heap of damage behind her, there is still a shot at love for you two. As you attempt to give it all you've got to love someone who's had her heart dragged through the mud, patience is key and love is mandatory.

Rid the relationship of your own issues. Sure, it's common to bring a bit of baggage from your life's experiences, but don't have so much drama that it causes added stress to the person you love. Come to the table with as clear of a situation as possible. Be honest and upfront right away, and end questionable, lingering relationships from the past.

Have patience if you seek longevity from the relationship. Understand what he feels when he details the bitter break he just experienced. Don't expect that he will be able to start with a completely clean slate and be ready for all the love you have to give. Even if you have never gone through heartbreak, you must take things slow and get to know your partner in order for him to accept all you have to give.

Avoid rushing her emotions. Understand that she might not be ready to dive into giving you all of herself for fear of being hurt again. Focus on the fun the two of you are having together, and give your love unconditionally. This means that if you really care for her, don't worry if she's not reciprocating all of your exact feelings right away. Give her time to open up to you, and simply enjoy the time you two spend together.

Do something unexpected every once in a while. Whether you want to shower him with gifts or surprise him in the middle of the day, do something that will shock and amaze him. Whisk him away from eating a sandwich at his desk to take him to his favorite bar and grill. Initiate activities to build the trust and excitement in your growing relationship.

Be kind when you experience setbacks. Surely during the course of your relationship there will be a time when, out-of-the-blue, she will have some sort of meltdown. Perhaps something triggered memories of the heartbreak that she suffered. Or, maybe you're so amazing that she becomes emotional. Be willing to adjust a bit to give her the space and time she needs to realign herself with the change. That might mean holding her close and letting her know you're there for her or giving her some time to do something alone so she can get her thoughts together. As long as you remain supportive, you're likely to be successful in helping mend that broken heart and sending your mate to a happier place in the future.
