How to Confront a Lying Boyfriend & Make a Better Relationship

Dealing with a boyfriend who is a liar complicates your relationship. You're worried over all the things he lied about and upset that he feels as if he can't come to you to talk about things before concocting lies. If he won't tell you what's going on, make it your duty to confront him and see what's wrong. This will help put you on the path to learning the truth and hopefully help build a better relationship.

Instructions

Set aside some private time and let him know you need to talk. Don't beat around the bush or use stories and small talk as a conversation builder. Address the issue, citing examples of the times you've caught him in a lie.

Give him a chance to speak. Do not interrupt him, but let him know that you both will discuss the matter civilly and allow each other to be heard. Follow up his responses with questions until you've addressed the entire issue.

Let him know that although you're upset with his lying, you're willing to address the issue and attempt to make the relationship better. Warn him that you will not stand for him lying in the future and that he needs to tell you the truth, even if it's something he thinks you won't want to hear.

Tell him what his lying has done to you emotionally and what it has done to your relationship. If you feel like you won't be able to trust him fully, tell him. If you think you will need to follow up his statements with questions and ask for more details, forewarn him. If you are going to make effort at repairing the damage and moving on, he has to understand what his lying has done to your trust.

Put the relationship on probation. Ask for some time apart so that you can clear your head and think about the situation. Offer to see each other when you're ready and take things slow.

Avoid bringing up the past. If you have decided to forgive him and move on, do so. Do not continue to bring up the issue if you plan to grow. Over time, if he sticks to his word and makes a wholehearted attempt to be honest, you will have a better relationship.
