How to Deal With a Boyfriend Who Is a Horrible Communicator

Poor communication can destroy a relationship if it isn't dealt with immediately. When you try to communicate with your boyfriend and he doesn't reciprocate, it can be frustrating. Many fights can be avoided if he takes the time to talk to you, even if it's as simple as replying to a text. Some guys don't have good communication skills, so you must work to compromise on communication tactics that work for both of you.

Instructions

Sit down and talk to him face-to-face. If you are speaking to each other in person, he might not get distracted as easily, avoid your text or forget to email you. Sit side-by-side with him so he knows you want to talk. Sometimes, you might need to state the obvious and ask if you can talk because he may not pick up on hints.

Give your boyfriend options for communicating with you. If he doesn't like to text, try instant messaging or communicating via email. If he'd prefer to talk on the phone, pick up the phone and call him. Make sure he knows you are willing to communicate in the way that makes him the most comfortable.

Initiate conversations instead of waiting for him to communicate with you. This includes where you are to meet for dinner or asking him how his day is going. Tell him you wish he would do the same for you and work on fixing this problem with him, or you can accept that this is how he is and continue to initiate all the conversations yourself.

Join him in a hobby or activity that he enjoys. When he is in a positive and upbeat frame of mind because he is enjoying sharing a favorite interest with you, he may be more open to communication. Take advantage of his good mood and tell him how much you enjoy spending time with him and how much you'd love to have more open communication and shared activities.
