How to Survive a Breakup With a Girlfriend

A breakup with a girlfriend is tough, especially if you'd been going out for a long time. Whether you broke it off or she did, you're bound to feel rejected, disappointed, lonely and sad. When you visit the places you went with her, she's still there in your mind. Lttle things might remind you of her, and you think of her spontaneously. You may feel as though you'll never survive to love again or that it will never be as good as it was. That's not true. You can survive a breakup with your girlfriend.

Instructions

Make sure you have closure. In order to survive a breakup with your girlfriend, you must accept that the relationship is over. Either talk with your ex-girlfriend, email her, call her, or let her know if you have unresolved questions, uncertainties, issues or problems. If she needs the same, give her the closure she needs. If all that needed to be said was said, then consider your relationship closed. You are ready to move on.

Give yourself time to get over the worst of the pain. Realize that the initial pain you feel, while acute and intense, is temporary.

Avoid going to the places you used to go with her. When the intense pain lessons, then go to those places with new people and give yourself a chance to associate that place with new people so it's no longer just about what you did with her.

Talk to your friends and get their support. Your friends have probably been through breakups and will understand what you're going through. They can help boost your spirits when you feel bleak.

Don't contact your ex-girlfriend for a while after the breakup even if you're still friends. Give yourself time away to get perspective, whether it's a few days or a few months.

Avoid living in hope that you will get back together. Although this may happen, most breakups are permanent. Your unhappiness is not permanent. Remember that you will find someone else who will make you even happier.

Learn from the mistakes both of you made. All breakups have something to teach.

Get out there and start looking again for a new girlfriend only after you're healed from the pain. If you're depressed or glum, you won't appear attractive to new women and this may discourage you further.

After a break up it is very common to feel that your ex boyfriend does not like you anymore, especially if he was the one that broke up with you.
