How to Get Him to Respect You When He Hurts You

One of the toughest things to deal with after you've been hurt is regaining your self-respect and the respect of the one who caused you pain. No matter if you and your beau have broken up or you're still working at your relationship, after you've gone through his painful actions, your best bet is to show him that you still deserve to be treated with esteem. Get him to understand that your feelings count and that his improper behavior will not be swept under the rug to be forgotten.

Instructions

Tell him that you're disappointed with his behavior. Discuss with him the ways that he hurt you providing specific details. Use a calm tone and avoid yelling and creating disruption. Agree to discuss issues only if he remains calm as well. Explain to him that you don't want to rehash and cause an argument but would rather make it clear to him how he hurt you.

Give him a break. Create some space within your dealing with him no matter if it's a few weeks before you decide to take him back or if you just agree to not speak for a while after the breakup. Let him know that you need some time to think about his actions if you accept his apology or not. Let yourself have the time away from him not only to do yourself some good to clear your mind but to show him what it's like to not have you around.

Stand firm in your decision with him. Begin to move on with your life without begging him to make things better or change for the sake of your relationship. Maintain strength and confidence. If he attempts to smooth things over before you're ready to discuss or reconsider, tell him that you're not ready and take your time dealing with him until you are.

Make your transition confidently. Go about your day-to-day lifestyle committing to projects and tasks as assigned. Create new opportunities to get involved in activities such as going to the gym, spending time with your friends or even catching up on housework. Keep moving forward without letting the problems hold you back to show him that you are capable of leading a happy life with or without him.
