How to Fix an Awkward Relationship

In every single relationship, there is an awkward moment, or even an entire awkward phase, that can be expected. Usually it's the first few months, when the couple is getting to know each other and finding out each other's quirks and bad habits, that are full of surprises. Oftentimes, this is when couples decide whether they want to deal with any awkwardness or just part ways. For those who decide to stay together, perseverance is needed. Pushing through the uncomfortable, embarrassing and downright weird moments are what will determine if a couple will last. Another awkward time in a relationship is after the first year, when the couple doesn't know what to do to keep each other interested anymore. Luckily, there are a few ways to fix that.

Talk about it. Once the first few months have passed, it is likely that the excitement phase has ended. You both are probably feeling curious about where the relationship is going but are reluctant to voice your concern to each other. When this situation arises, just do it. Don't beat around the bush because it'll only prolong the awkwardness. The best thing to do is to be honest. It is likely that your partner feels exactly the same way. Communication is key, and honesty will set you free. Be clear and concise about what you want from the next step in the relationship. Once the dreaded talk is over, the relationship is sure to improve.

Do something different. If the relationship is stuck in a rut, and the talk was only a short-term fix, do something out of the ordinary. It is important to actually put effort into fixing something that has the potential to be greater. Play hooky from work or take a spontaneous trip. Something completely unexpected is sure to add a spark to the dwindling fire. No matter how big or small, the effort will be acknowledged.

Have time alone, outside of the relationship. Space is important in any partnership. Smothering each other with company will only cause more tension and resentment. It is key for each of you to have your own hobbies that are done occasionally and separately from one another. Once your return to each other, you will feel refreshed and ready to be happy again.
