How to Date a Meat Eater

If you've opted for a vegetarian, or even vegan, lifestyle, then dating someone who eats meat regularly can be a turnoff. However, depending on your moral beliefs, you may be able to date a meat-eater, if you keep an open mind. When dating a meat-eater, it is important to focus on the other qualities that attract you to her and that she respects your beliefs as a person who does not eat meat.

Instructions

    1

Be open to his lifestyle choice. This is perhaps the most important part of dating a meat-eater. You would not want him to push you to eat meat, so by the same token, do not push your beliefs on him. Explaining why you have chosen this diet choice is one thing, but trying to get someone to change his dietary habits is potentially detrimental to the relationship. Respect is paramount. An AltDaily article titled, "The Vegan's Dating Dilemma," says that "as long as your meat-eating partner greatly respects your passion, even if they don't share it, then it can work."

    2

Plan meals for the week together by sitting down and discussing what you will eat that week and going shopping together. If you're eating out, choose restaurants that have options that will please both of you.

    3

Discuss how meat will play into your lives as you become more serious. The AltDaily article suggests that you openly talk about where you draw the line when it comes to meat. Questions about whether meat is acceptable in the refrigerator or whether it can be consumed in the home are important. In addition, questions about your future children's dietary habits should be discussed. You should find out whether he might expect you to prepare meat dishes for them.

    4

Stay true to your beliefs. If you find that your boyfriend's carnivorous ways are a deal-breaker, then do not pursue it. Compromising your beliefs for someone else is never acceptable. Some men and women are unable to get past the other person's beliefs, and that's OK. Instead, seek out other vegetarians.
