When you're going through a bitter breakup, no matter whose decision it was to call it quits, the whole thing can be a heavy blow. Sure, you know things weren't perfect, but you think there's something that exists between you both that deserves another stab at success. If your ex is being a bit stubborn grab someone new to shake things up and see if he reconsiders. A Psych Central article on breakups says hopping right into a new relationship after your breakup is dating on the rebound. Although this isn't the healthiest approach to deal with the issues between you and your ex, there are ways you can use your new situation to have your ex craving you once again.

Enjoy dating someone new. Use the new guy in a positive way, such as to give you a chance to get to explore new personalities and experience new things. Dating someone else might even give you some insight into your previous relationship and some idea of why things turned sour. Perhaps you complained that your ex never wanted to do the things you want to do; and after dating the new guy, you may realize that nobody really wants to do some of the kooky things you want to do.
2Try communicating in a much different manner with the new guy than you did with your ex-boyfriend. Consider how your ex may have felt that you never told him anything about what you do or who you're with but when you're with the new guy, give him full details to your whereabouts to see if it affects him differently. Take time to get to know the new guy more than you did with your ex. If your ex often complained that you only talked about yourself, notice how appreciative the new guy is when you give him a chance to talk about himself.
3Show up in the same circle of friends with the new guy. Yes, as devious as this is, test the waters by bringing your new guy out and about with you to your favorite pub where you know your ex will be hanging out. By pitting the new guy against your ex's jealous streak, your ex may realize just how much the petty things that came between you in your relationship shouldn't matter. Don't throw the new guy in his face, after all you do want him back, but a simple introduction making casual mention that the two of you have been hanging out will be enough to entice your ex's interest, and maybe his envy.
4Tell your ex you're considering moving further into the relationship with the new guy. Communicate with him and let him know that if he wants to discuss you two reconciling that now's the time because you have been seeing the new guy for a while and you don't want to be a heartbreaker yourself. Be open and honest with him about the situation with the guy you've been dangling in front of him and see if he's open to the idea of getting back together.
