How to Handle a Boyfriend Who Gets Too Comfortable

The start of a relationship is always exciting, with your boyfriend putting great effort into planning dates and looking his best around you. However, your boyfriend may become comfortable with you after a few months of dating; rather than dining at a pricey restaurant, for instance, he may suggest ordering a pizza instead. It's important to remember that entering the comfort zone is normal, but there are certain steps you can take to ensure all excitement surrounding the relationship isn't lost.

Give your boyfriend compliments and acknowledge the little things he does for you. Although they may not explicitly say it, men liked to feel wanted, handsome and sexy. Compliment him if he styles his hair differently, loses some weight or buys a new outfit. It will keep the excitement alive and will encourage him to maintain his appearance.

Keep the mystery. It's one thing to have a comfortable relationship, but it's another thing to leave the bathroom door open or go to sleep with an avocado mask on. He may not mention if this bothers him, but you'll appear sexier in his eyes if you keep some things a mystery.

Surprise him with the unexpected. Men get a thrill from variety; unanticipated events trigger the pleasure center of their brain. Plan a date that he'd enjoy and insist that you pick up the tab. If he's usually the first one home from work, come home early one day to surprise him with his favorite dinner and dessert. Surprises like these will keep him on his toes and prevent him from getting too comfortable.

Take a break from each other. Some couples become too comfortable when they spend too much time around each other. Carve out hours in the day that you can spend shopping or running errands, taking up a new hobby or visiting with friends and family. Spending time away from your boyfriend will give him time to miss you, and he'll show a renewed sense of excitement when you return.

Embrace his definition of romance, which may not be the same as yours. Long hours of conversation or candlelit dinners probably won't excite him. However, going to a basketball game or playing a round of golf with him will show him that you're willing to go the extra mile to make him happy.
