How to Get Rid of Another Suitor

If you're being pursued by a man who you simply don't want to date, you may be stuck in an awkward, embarrassing situation. You probably feel torn between telling him bluntly to go away and breaking the news to him gently. You don't want to insult and hurt him, but you also feel it's time to put your foot down. While avoidance may seem like the best approach, this may not be clear enough to a persistent man. The last thing you want to do is agree to date someone who you don't really want to date.

Instructions

Make a clean break. If this is someone who you have dated, try to not bounce back and forth between dating and breaking up, which can send the wrong message. If you truly want to rid your life of this person, stop see-sawing, and break up for good.

Avoid any places where you may "accidentally" run into him. These places would include where you first met, anywhere you have been together and the places where you know he frequents. Avoiding him may not make him stop calling you, but you at least won't have to see him face-to-face. On the same note, if you told him that you always do something regularly, you may want to change up your schedule for the time being. For example, if you mentioned that you always stop at the same cafe before heading to work, it's possible that he'll show up just to see you.

Tell him directly that you're not interested in dating him. You don't have to be nasty, but you do have to be firm. Don't place blame on timing or anything that might cause him to wear down your defenses. Simply thank him for the compliment of pursuing you and say that you're not interested. This should, hopefully, be enough to get him off your back.
