Going through a breakup is an unfortunate part of many relationships. Whether the breakup was his idea or a mutual decision, it can still be difficult to move on from someone you love. If you have decided that absence really does make the heart grow fonder, look at some ways to win your ex back and start rebuilding a stronger relationship.
Find Out His Status
Before you begin your quest to win your ex back, find out whether he is still single. Although his status may or may not affect your desire to get back with him, it may affect your success. Casually ask his friends or family whether he is seeing someone. If they are not sure, view his profiles on social networking sites to see if he has changed his status from single. If the two of you still talk, subtly asking him whether he has started seeing someone new may also work.
Give Him Space
Although giving your ex space may not be what you want, it may be what both of you need, especially if the breakup was his decision. The last thing you want to do is push your ex or come on too strong. Take time to think about why the relationship ended and what, if anything, you can do differently the next time around. Perhaps with a little space and time he will begin to miss you as much as you miss him.
Show Him What He Is Missing
Giving your ex a little reminder of what he had can make him want you back. Call him up and reminisce about special times that the two of you shared. If the good times outweigh the bad, he may be willing to start over. If he is not answering your calls, show up to a place he frequents wearing an outfit and hairstyle he has never seen. Acting nonchalant or even flirting with other guys will get his attention and make him jealous. Be careful, though -- sometimes making a guy jealous can backfire and turn him off.
Ask Him Out
If your ex is single and seems receptive to you, invite him out for coffee or lunch to discuss things. Choose a place that is familiar or one that will not create any weird romantic tension. Take things slowly, especially if you two have been apart for a while. Open the lines of communication and get to know each other again. Avoid bringing up people you dated while you were apart unless he asks. Keep the focus on the two of you and what you want for the future. If the date goes well, ask to schedule a date for dinner.
Admit Your Mistakes
If the relationship ended because of something you did, admit your mistakes and apologize. Be willing to listen to what he has to say without being defensive. Although you may want to point out everything he also did wrong during the relationship, think about the bigger picture. If you want him back, you have to be willing to seek and offer forgiveness. After admitting your mistakes, discuss with him what you have learned from them and how things will be different if the two of you get back together. Be as honest and open with him as possible.
