It's been said that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. The best you can do is try to improve upon that first impression over time. You're bound to meet people at bad moments and therefore might not make the impression that you would have liked. If there's a guy you like and you get the impression he doesn't care for you, it can take time to change that perception, but it starts with a single conversation. Starting a conversation with a guy who hates you requires some wit and courage.

Walk right up to the guy in question so you can say what you need to say. The direct approach will get his attention and could also earn his respect.
2Tell the guy in a jokey fashion that you're not as bad as he thinks you are. This opens up the possibility for further conversation because the statement will require a response that you can then play off of.
3Make a joke about why you think the guy has a bad impression of you. Showing a sense of humor and a bit of self-depreciation can open the guy up to learning more about you.
4Apologize to the guy if you had done something previously that you know rubbed him the wrong way. Be specific and matter-of-fact and then let that subject drop unless he wants to discuss it further. Avoid over-apologizing, but this can help the guy start over again with you impression-wise with more of a clean slate.
5Ask him a question about himself. This allows you to move the talk away from yourself, and you can then see where the conversation goes.
