How to Stop an Ex-Boyfriend From Stalking Me

Stalking is a serious matter and shouldn't be taken lightly. If you've just broken up with your boyfriend and his behavior has become aggressive and obtrusive, you need to handle the situation with care. If he's just pestering you because he's taken a beating from the breakup, you can still give him the boot so you don't have to deal with him anymore. No matter where you stand, you need to be sure you send the right signals and let him know you seriously want him to stop.

Make it clear to him that you two are over. In case he's confused as to what you meant by "We're through," make the breakup official by communicating with him clearly that you don't want to be with him and that, at this time, a friendship isn't even something you're ready for. Be direct and to the point, with little discussion.

Give him a warning. Allow him to do the right thing by not only taking your hints but also your direct instructions to leave you alone. Tell him he needs to find something to do with his free time away from you. Let him know that you're trying your best not to make the issue turn into a bad situation and that he should just move on with his life without you in it.

Change your communication tools. From ignoring his calls to changing your phone number and e-mail address, if he can't seem to abide by your rules, severely limit his access to you. When you come into contact with him or he reaches out to you by attempting to stop by your home, let him know it's not negotiable and you will not communicate with him.

Educate yourself on stalking laws so you know if you need to file a restraining order or a special report if the matter becomes serious. Contact your local authorities to ask what types of options you have to make his absence in your life permanent.

Report him to the authorities if his actions have become more than a poor reaction to your breakup. If all of your attempts to cease communication with him fail, don't take matters into your own hands; contact your local law enforcement immediately.
