Tips on How to Pick Up Women

Picking up women doesn't require tricks or bravado. In fact, many women are turned off by pick-up lines or grand stunts to get their attention. To successfully pick up a woman, focus on subtlety and approachability. There's no need to put on a performance. To get her attention, memorize a few tried-and-true techniques and be confident in the simple approach.

Many men don't know the power of a simple "hello." One of the easiest ways to pick up a woman is to simply approach her and make an introduction. Whether it's in a crowded bar or at a dinner party, saying hi and asking her name opens the door. Many women claim that a man who has the confidence to approach her actually appears attractive simply because he initiated conversation. If there aren't enough things to talk about, that's OK. A friendly chat gives her the chance to open up. If she's interested, she'll keep talking.

If the direct approach seems too intimidating, eye contact sends a clear message without any words. Whether it's the girl who delivers supplies to the office or a woman sitting across the room at a restaurant, frequent and prolonged eye contact piques her curiosity and leaves her wondering. In fact, this approach can give her the confidence to make the first move. Be subtle and don't overdo it.

If she orders a Cobb salad to go, tell her she's missing out on the Waldorf. If she's cheering for her college football team on TV, mention you had a friend who went to school there. Even if these common denominators aren't true - although, to be effective, they should be - they make her curious and provide a topic for discussion. Be creative. Look for any clues that could open the door.

Compliments are often over-used and delivered insincerely. However, a genuine and non-sexual compliment can typically get her attention. Approach her and tell her you couldn't help but notice her smile. If she's a colleague, compliment her on her latest project or big sale. Tell her that her laugh sounds like someone famous or that you're impressed with her ability to scarf a plate of chicken wings. It doesn't have to be something serious; poking fun is OK, too. The idea is to make her smile with a casual stroke of the ego and open the door for further conversation.
