It's come to the inevitable. The relationship has dragged on and on and it doesn't look like he ever wants to get married. You realize you have to move on, but it's not easy because he treats you so well. You can exit by breaking off gradually.

Instructions

    1

    Wean yourself of phone contact. If you're talking on the phone everyday, cut back. When he calls you, don't call him back right away.

    Wean yourself of personal contact. Start having other things to do. If you normally get together on Saturdays, have something else scheduled, and, no, he can't come with you.

    Stop having sex with him. Stop spending the night together. For a woman, sexual contact breeds attachment. It's easier to break it off when you are not having sex.

    Don't take the bait if he responds by setting the date. This is a panic move and it's a poor foundation to build a marriage on.

    Write him a letter saying that you can no longer stay with him. He'll probably try to change your mind, but you're moving on.
