How to Rekindle Your Relationship After Hardship

Going through a rough patch with your significant other, no matter if it's between the two of you or an independent issue causing you grief, causes stress to the life of your relationship. To rekindle it, you and your partner must commit to a little give and take to make things better. From finances to past relationships to work-related drama, keep your relationship the central focus to get back on track after the suffering has subsided.

Instructions

    1

Confide in your partner. Bridge the gap with your partner by not shutting him out when you've gone through a heap of stress. See the light at the end of the tunnel where you can get back to spending quality time together and enjoying each other's company, no matter how simple or elaborate the plans are.

    2

Spend quiet time together. Start slowly by simply taking up space on the couch together or going to a movie. Commit to doing activities as a team without the pressure of discussing heavy topics or deep conversations. Laugh at a comedy or be completely silent propped up against each other.

    3

Do something for yourself. Get some exercise, enjoy a glass of wine with an old friend or visit a relative out of town. Return feeling a sense of longing for your partner after the independent change of scenery. Make an effort to heal yourself from the stress so that you can be open-minded and focused on building your relationship.

    4

Plan a vacation together. Get away for an extended weekend and leave the pressures of reality on hold for a day or so. Plan to enjoy a nice meal, sensual massages and taking in the weather alone as a couple. Do something new, such as taking a dance lesson, an art class or going to an outdoor event together.

    5

Meet with a counselor, especially if your hardship caused you a great deal of grief. Talk to someone who is unbiased and will give each of you some insight from an outsider's perspective. Practice sharing your feelings with the hopes of restoring the sizzle in your relationship.
