Breaking up with someone can leave a person feeling lonely, depressed, and angry. Here's how one can cope with the situation, get over it, and move on.

To begin getting over a break up, find pictures you have around the house of you and your ex. Take a pair of scissors and cut them up. Better yet, burn them. If you really don't want to destroy them, then put them put of sight. The best thing is to get their face out of your view.
2Take a pen and paper and write down all the negative things about the person. Most of the time, when we break up with someone, we tend to only focus on the good times. We completely forget about the bad times, or the character traits the person had that were irritating. If you sit down and make a list of these, you will be able to put things in better perspective and realize why you broke up in the first place.
3Call a friend to talk. It's okay to cry and get it out of your system, but don't prolong this. Speak to your friend and start going out to as many social events as you can. You don't have to start dating right away of you aren't ready, but getting out and socializing in any way you can will help you heal faster, as opposed to sitting home brooding and moping.
4Check out some of the dating sites that are on the computer. Again, you may not be ready to date again, but there is nothing wrong with making new friends, especially those of the opposite sex.
5Exercise, get rest, and be sure you are eating right. You may not feel like it but going to the gym will help you feel better, and you can get out there and talk and socialize as well. Stayinmg fit will prepare you psychologically as well as physically, and you will feel stronger and better able to handle life's challenges at this time.
6Take a class. This can be an adult night class to learn a foreign language, craft class or ceramics, or music. This will help to take your mind off your ex.
7Just as you did with the picures, remove or put in a garbage bag any items associated with your ex. If it depresses you to look at them, then get them out of your view. If you save them, you may be able to take them out again months from now, but only when you feel you are ready and won't have a break down.
