When a relationship ends, it is a complicated and difficult time in your life, no matter how long the relationship lasted or the reasons behind the breakup. Jealousy is an issue many people face following the end of a relationship, and it can be a tough habit to break. Overcoming this issue requires you to evaluate your own life, establish a new way to look at things and avoid situations in which jealousy gets the best of you.

- 1
Examine any underlying issues that may be leading to your feelings of jealousy. You might feel insecure, angry or resentful after a breakup. These are feelings that ultimately lead to a bitter jealousy over your ex and make your own life more difficult than it needs to be. Once you've examined these issues, work on developing solutions to them by talking with friends, reading self-help books or seeking professional help, if necessary.
2Accept the feelings of jealousy you have about your ex by giving the jealousy one chance to consume your thoughts when in a private setting. Sit alone, absorb these feelings and have a cry. After the session is over, find a way to move past those feelings and move on with your life.
3Appreciate the positive qualities within yourself and recognize your own self-worth. Many feelings of jealousy are instigated by low self-esteem and a lack of self-confidence.
4Express your feelings and emotions on paper by writing them in a private journal. Keep this journal on hand so you can use it when you get an overwhelming feeling of jealousy over your ex. Writing in a journal allows you a personal and private place to deal with those emotions and move past them.
5Shift your focus from being jealous and resentful of your ex to more positive thoughts of optimism. Accept the things you do not or cannot have, and appreciate those you do have. Take every moment that may lead to jealousy over your ex, and reverse it to be a positive in your life.
6Avoid situations that may lead to feeling jealous over your ex. If you know where she frequently has coffee or eats lunch, avoid those places. Do not check up on her, ask about her or let the curiosity consume you so much that you are creating situations for the jealousy to take over.
