Having no desire in your relationship or partner can be sad when the passion was once there. But saying goodbye is even painful when you don't know how well your ex will take it or you will feel like kicking yourself for ending it. Write down a list of strong and weak points about the relationship. If it proves to be too much to work things out -- abuse, cheating, lack of compromising or too many arguments -- go ahead with the decision to part ways. Otherwise stick around with your partner to try to work out any minor problems that exists in the relationship.
2Contact your ex to set up a time and date so you two can talk. It is best to break up at his or her place so they can grieve in private or if the two of you live together, consider staying at a friend's house for a few days after having "the talk" to avoid being uncomfortable living under the same roof. This possibly will give them enough time to leave your home or if it is not your place, you can pack up and go elsewhere.
3Be strong enough to end the relationship face to face. Breaking up through email, phone, and fax or text message can show you had little respect to the person you once loved which can leaves a bad memory of you on your ex's part. Unless you met over the phone or Internet, it is wise to end things in person.
4Try not to get emotional when you give your speech. State your reasons why you are breaking up with the ex and don't give them the impression it must be their fault. Normally the person will cry or beg for you to stay so you must be firm with your decision and remind them it is the end and wish them well.
5Reject your ex' s idea to stay friends or promising to make improvements. They will try to sway you to keep contact open but this will only defeat the purpose of moving on, so dismiss any comments in order for them to understand the relationship is over.
