How to Date As an Adult

The dating scene has changed; you can find a potential date the traditional way at a local bar or event or try the newer method of online dating available through sites like eHarmony or Match.com. Either way, dating as an adult means being confident in who you are and having a good idea of your ideal mate. Preparing for a date might be as simple as throwing on some jeans, but to be successful on the adult dating scene you have to put in a little more work during and after the date.

Be sure to pick a place that both parties agree upon. From skydiving to wine tasting, there's something for everyone.

Prepare for your date by selecting an outfit that's appropriate for the occasion. If you're just going to grab a slice of pizza and beer, consider wearing jeans and a comfortable shirt. If you're going to a fancy restaurant, dress up in business casual attire--but don't look too stuffy.

Show your confidence during your date. Smile and participate in engaging conversation with the other person. During the first date, you'll likely talk about work, your family and your interests.

Follow-up at least two to three days after your date via email or by phone. If you're interested in going on a second date, make it known and plan for a future date. This time, things will be a bit more relaxed since you won't have the first-date jitters to deal with.
