Getting over a breakup is a daunting task that we all face sooner or later. Though it's difficult to imagine now, you will heal. How long the healing process takes and how badly you feel is largely up to you. It's a delicate balance of honoring how you feel while focusing on the future. Follow these tips and look forward to feeling significantly better in a week.

Remodel your bedroom or another space that reminds you of your ex. Changing the look of your environment erases reminders of your relationship and gives you an activity on which to focus. If you're not up for a total remodel, small changes such as rearranging artwork or getting new plants will make a difference. Put on some fun music and invite a friend over to help with the makeover.
2Listen to uplifting music. Music is a powerful mood changer. The sad songs may tempt you, but resist. Songs that focus on recovery, overcoming obstacles and loving yourself just the way you are will help you quickly get over your breakup. Make an inspiring playlist so that you can get a boost whenever you need it.
3Exercise. Whether you're moping around or pacing the floor, exercise can improve how you're feeling physically and emotionally. It's also a positive way to use your time and focus on the future. Join a class, pump some iron or pound the treadmill.
4Spend time with friends and family. Being with the folks who love you no matter what is healing after a breakup. Though you may feel like isolating yourself, you risk wallowing in sadness instead of moving forward. Talk to your loved ones about how you're feeling and then move on to planning fun activities together.
5Give yourself permission to feel difficult emotions, but don't hold onto them. It's normal to have a range of feelings, including sadness, relief, anxiety, confusion, disappointment and jealousy. Letting yourself truly experience these emotions with the understanding that your feelings are normal can help you move on. Just beware of gripping too tightly to these emotions. Feel your sadness, honor it and let it go.
