As much as you may love your boyfriend, it gets annoying when it seems you are the only one doing any of the cleaning around the house. Whether he never makes the bed or leaves his dirty clothes on the floor instead of putting them in a hamper, the little things start to get to you after a while if your guy never contributes to the household chores. You can quickly get your guy in line however by being clear and direct about what you need help with, and being frank about the consequences if he chooses not to.

Ask him to help. Although it may seem obvious when there is a mess, and you feel that your boyfriend should take initiative to help clean, remember that he may have never had to clean up after himself at his parents home. Many moms go easy on their sons in terms of the cleaning department, which is traditionally considered a woman's job. Your boyfriend may not even notice the mess in the same way that you do. You may have to ask him several time to please put the dishes in the dishwasher or to make the bed times before it starts to sink in and become routine.
2Stop picking up his slack. If he doesn't start helping out after asking him so many times, leave things undone and see how he feels about it. When he can't find any clean socks, tell him that you only wash clothes that are in the dirty clothes hamper. When the garbage in the kitchen becomes unbearable, pretend as if you don't notice until he says something about it. Remind him that it was his responsibility to take it out. When the dishes pile up in the sink, order take-out...for yourself. Eventually, he will get frustrated enough for the two of you to have a serious conversation about sharing the cleaning.
3Create a chore list. Sometimes you have to literally spell things out in black and white. Print out a chore chart and place it on the refrigerator, where you both can see it every day. List the chores the two of you have agreed to split . Include boxes so the tasks can be checked off daily. Print a new chore chart each week if you are taking turns with the different chores.
4Show him the benefits of making you happy. Once your boyfriend starts doing his part and helping with the cleaning, make your happiness evident by praising him and doing special things for him. Even though he shouldn't need a reason to help you clean the house, if he sees a major improvement in your mood simply because he is helping out more, he'll be much more inclined to keep you happy. Let him know that the good mood extends to the bedroom, as you are less tired and more relaxed when all of the cleaning burden is not on you.
